Can Bearded Dragons Eat Broccoli?

Short answer: Yes, bearded dragons can eat broccoli — but only in moderation, not as a daily staple.

Why Broccoli Should Be Limited

Broccoli is non-toxic and can be a healthy addition, but it contains two compounds that make it a “sometimes” food for bearded dragons:

  • Oxalates: bind calcium and can interfere with calcium absorption.
  • Goitrogens: can affect thyroid function when fed in large, regular amounts.

In small amounts, broccoli is perfectly fine — just don’t make it the main green.

How to Feed Broccoli

  1. Wash thoroughly.
  2. Chop the florets (and some stem) into small pieces — avoid large, tough chunks.
  3. Offer occasionally, mixed into a varied salad.

Better daily staples: collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion greens, and turnip greens should be the base of the salad instead.
