Can Bearded Dragons Eat Sweet Potato?

Short answer: Yes, bearded dragons can eat sweet potato — but only occasionally, as a treat.

Is Sweet Potato Safe for Bearded Dragons?

Sweet potato is safe and nutritious (high in vitamin A and beta-carotene), but it’s also starchy and contains oxalates, which bind calcium. That means it should be an occasional food, not a daily vegetable.

How to Feed Sweet Potato

  1. Peel and wash the sweet potato.
  2. Grate or finely chop it — raw sweet potato is very hard, so shredding makes it easier to eat. (Lightly cooking/steaming is fine too, but skip the seasoning.)
  3. Offer a small amount once or twice a week, mixed into greens.

Bottom line: sweet potato is a healthy occasional treat — just keep portions small because of the starch and oxalates.
